Wild Muscadine

Description:

Muscadines, members of the same genus as grapes, are a southern staple and can often be found sold at many farmer's markets. Likewise, these natives grow prolifically and can easily overtake a yard or garden. Thankfully, they are packed with fiber and one of the best sources of antioxidants in fruit. The skin is tougher than that of other grapes. As such, people often pop the pulp into their mouths and discard the casing. All parts of the berry are edible, however, and they are great for preserving and juicing.

Habitat:

Climbing various trees throughout Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs, AR. They were all over the trees in the park, but this vine was low enough for pictures.
