Rio Grande Cooter

Pseudemys gorzugi

Description:

Mottled shell with a reddish-orange ground coloration. The upper jaw is cusped and there is a yellow postorbital blotch. Candidate for federal listing as endangered.

Habitat:

Found in spring fed waters in the desert. We ended up catching 5 of these in 2 days. I go with a group from school so we can get genetic samples from there for future data.
