Description:

This handsome fellow was territory calling from a dead tree. I didn't have the best lens on my camera. Medium sized woodpecker. Pale plumage with black and white barring on the back. Males have a red cap that runs from the base of the beak to the back of the neck. Dark bill.

Habitat:

Gardiner County Park, NY. Temperate forest.
