Sandhill Cranes

Grus canadensis

Description:

Tall stately birds, taller than a Great Blue Heron. Dusty gray, with a red crown, a fluffy tuft for a tail.

Habitat:

Not uncommon here in central Florida, if you know where to look. I've seen them most often in pastures or wet areas, sometimes even in a soccer field or school ground!
