Green-patched Looper Moth

Description:

Approximately 24mm in length. It has a Hook-tipped forewing which is pinkish mauve with some shiny green shading that looks impressive when it catches the light. The front head is orange. Also known as the Hologram Moth.

Habitat:

The larvae mostly feed on woody plants, including Humulus lupulus, Populus tremuloides, Laportea canadensis and Rubus.

Notes:

This was a welcome new moth species for my Calgary backyard. When the light catches the green part of the forewing you can see why it is also called the hologram moth.
