Grasshopper Moth

Description:

This little 1 cm black and white moth is really peculiar. While it looks like a normal moth from the top; from the side, it looks like a grasshopper. It has strange little horns on the head which are not the antennae (but might be the labial palps). The antennae run flat down the center of the back, joining into a single strand. It lifts the abdomen into the air at rest. It has moss green coloring on the head and thorax. Family Pyralidae.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
