Crangon stylirostris

Description:

About 5 cm long Crangon stylirostris has a cryptic-sandy coloration which can vary according to background. Dark and light bands on the legs and a long antennae. They typically are an ambush predator, burying themselves in the sand to capture small crustaceans and fish. They also eat small clams.

Habitat:

Spotted in a sandy tide pool at Tongue Point Marine Sanctuary. Found from Alaska to central California ranging from the intertidal zone to a minus 260 ft where waves and currents leave mainly a sandy bottom.
