This is another Brown Snake, Storeria dekayi. The Northern Water snake has bands that go all the way across the body and are much bigger than this guys.
And it's okay to not know much about snakes, that's what this site is for :)
i dont soorry, but if you think its something different than say so. I dont know alot about snakes, but this was about 30-40cm long? my friend thought it was a juvenile water snake?
Do you have any pictures of the full snake? The pattern is not right for a water snake.
