Shield sundew

Drosera peltata

Description:

Up to 30cm tall. An upright delicate plant with simple white flowers and spiky pink and green leaves designed to capture small arthropod prey. Many plants covered a large shady area of dry forest floor.

Habitat:

Open, dry eucalyptus forest floor with grasses and mosses.

Notes:

D. peltata subsp. auriculata . . This 'carnivorous' species is fairly common in Victoria but I have never remembered what time of year the flowers appear. Also in NZ and India.
