White Rhinoceros

Ceratotherium simum

Description:

The skin is rough, dark grey-brown and appears naked but has a scattering of coarse bristles. The muzzle is broad, the lips wide and square. The head is long in proportion to the neck and is carried low.

Habitat:

Requires grassland, thick cover and water close together and prefer flat undulating terrain.

Notes:

The other name for the white rhino is the square-lipped rhino. It is the second-largest land mammal in southern Africa. Conservation status is near-threatened as they are poached for their horn.
