Red-washed Satyr

Pierella helvina incanescens

Description:

These butterflies stayed close to the ground, deep in the forest undergrowth where it was dark. I often disturbed them while walking along a path deep in the forest.

Habitat:

Likes clear trails in the forest, and secondary forest edges adjacent to forested areas.

Notes:

I saw many of these butterflies in the forest around Rancho Naturalista, Costa Rica.
