Aglais milberti
Family: Nymphalidae. Genus: Aglais (the only one in North America). Also known as Fire-rim Tortoiseshell. Wingspan: 42-63 mm. The upperside is black with orange submarginal bands. Both wings have narrow black marginal bands. Blue dots on hindwing. Very quick flier. Adult foods: Nectar of goldenrod, thistle, lilac, plant sap, dung and rotting fruit. Larval foods are Stinging Nettle or Tall Nettle.
Meadow with abundant goldenrod and other weeds and wild flowers.
