Red-eyed Vireo Immature

Vireo olivaceus

Description:

Small bird, striped head. I think it's a Worm-eating warbler but that gray median patch has me wondering...maybe a juvenile?

Habitat:

In Mountain Laurel, Rhododendron ticket. 3000" elevation

My USA book only has hand paintings which are not very accurate, no broad grey stripe through the eye which is highlighted a brilliant red whereas yours and the one in the link show a dull red.

So Sweet.

Definitely a juvenile, you can still see the gape. The second picture looks more like the buff you should see, maybe it just needs to wear off the white tips to the new feathers! I think Worm-eating Warbler is correct.
