Blue-footed Booby

Sula nebouxii

Two of seven juvenile birds present at the Playa del Rey breakwater. Compared to other boobies, note gray bill, bluish feet, and lightly colored rump and tail. Their large numbers along the California coast this fall seems to be part of a rare post-breeding invasion from nesting colonies in the Gulf of California.
