Ah, yeah, gotcha. Flamboyantly beautiful. Any chance it could be something that was climbing up the tree? Maybe Alsomitra macrocarpa ... just a stray thought.
I do have good luck with seeds. Not really a special liking just for them but anything cool or different that I come across.

Thanks john and suz. It does dwarf a maple samara big time! I didn't see the tree close up. It's one of the rainforest giants, with the canopy beginning 20 - 30m above the ground, so all you see is the buttress roots and trunk.
How knock-back is that? Makes maple samara seem positively tame... what does the tree look like?
