Podophyllum peltatum

Description:

One or two leaved plant with palmately lobed leaves. Flowers produced only from plants with two leaves. Single white, nodding flower with a yellow center is produced underneath the leaves. Petals are waxy feeling. A single, yellow edible (when ripe) fruit is produced from the flower. It is said to be lemon flavored and can be used to make jellies.

Habitat:

Suburban garden but not cultivated.

Notes:

All parts except for the fruit are considered poisonous when ingested in large quantities. Has been used medicinally by Native Americans. Native plant to North America.
