Hetaerina titia
Seen at La Selva Biological Research Center.
We have solved the problem. It seems that this one (Smokey) has a variety of wing patterns, one looks very much like an Ebony :)
I would wait. Perhaps you could ask for confirmation from the La Selva Biological Research Center to see if they have records. I found several papers from US universities connected to their research, but no lists of species. To narrow my searches, I am working with a list from Bill Haber, 23 November 2011; http://efg.cs.umb.edu/monteverde/Ode/Ode...
thanks Joanne, What do you suggest I do? leave it like this, or tentatively put in the ID?
Pam - this appears to be an Ebony Jewelwing, Calopteryx maculata, however I cannot find a reference on the web to support it in Costa Rica. This is the best reference which as it in US and in South America. http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20q?searc...
