Paropsis charybdis
Possibly Paropsis charybdis but this one has much stronger colours and maybe a slightly different profile - more of a hump at the rear. About 10mm long.
On a vehicle at a used car yard under very powerful night lights.

Thanks peoples. Sergio there's a huge number of species that specialise on gum trees. I think we're just scratching the surface. Every time I try to ID one I learn about more to be found.
nice
So you have them too! Great series and great beetle!
Terrific Mark!
I have to ask: do they particularly like Volkswagans ? ;)
Fantastic beetle!
Awesome find!
Thanks Martin. If you're lucky the vehicles can give some excellent (albeit artificial) backgrounds. Looking forward to the results.
Very nice Mark. I think I will need to do some night time tyre kicking too - they seem to like cars. I agree with your guess. Morwell link shows two different forms that they are calling P. charybdis and the second is certainly the same as yours. I've found several interesting insects yesterday and will show them in a few days when time permits.
