Great White Imperial

Neomyrina nivea hiemalis

Description:

This male Imperial made my day start gloriously. It is a rare species in Thailand, a first for me, and an awesome butterfly with those long tails and the fascinating blue/purple shine on the fore-wings.

Habitat:

Forest

Notes:

I just had parked the car and was ready for today's trip when I saw a Sailor (BF), I took a shot and then it started to annoy this little fellow, much to my fear that it would leave. But it stayed put for a while, enough for one pic with the 400mm tele. I changed to the macro lens, but then it was again irritated by the Sailor and left... Still one pic of a fascinating and rare butterfly!
