Black-headed Gull; Gaviota Reidora

Chroicocephalus ridibundus

Description:

All these pictures contain juveniles which all appear to be Black-headed. Taking the lagoon as a whole Mediterranean and Slender-billed Gulls were also breeding here and for the chicks the main difference is the shape of the bill, the Mediterranean being thicker, more like a herring Gull and the Slender-billed being thinner and slightly down-curved while tapering to a point. Black-headeds easily outnumber all the other species combined.

Habitat:

Coastal marshes.
