Impatiens pallida
Yellow flowers with 5 petals, 3 sepals, and reproductive organs within the tubular corolla. Each fertilized flower is replaced by a seedpod that's up to 2" long. The seed pods have projectile seeds that explode out of the pods when they are lightly touched, hence the name 'touch-me-not'.
Spotted on the border between a meadow and a deciduous forest.
My kids LOVE this plant and would spend hours popping the seedpods if they could!

Thanks for all the comments! My oldest son has autism and LOVES popping the seedpods - it's like nature therapy! He stops at every bush we pass and pops away with all the ripest pods. I admit that I love popping them too though, and it's amazing the force with which the seeds burst out when pressed! :)
One of MY VERY FAVORITE woodland flowers, Christine!!
You just cannot help squeezing them to make them "pop"!
