Calvatia gigantea
Round, fully enclosed firm mushroom. Flesh feels thick. Racquetball size.
Top of a mountain. 48-96 km/h winds are common throughout the year. Almost 2,743 m in elevation. Grasses and sagebrush area. Shorter plant life. Dry conditions.
I picked this to see underneath. It was a very firm specimen and I couldn't squish it at all.
Calvatia gigantea is a giant puff mushroom and the sizes seem much larger than mine. Are there any that are similar, but smaller, or is it due to the habitat in which is was in that caused it to be smaller?
