Pacific Sand Sole (Flounder)

Psettichthys melanostictus

Description:

It is a flat fish and inhabits Eastern Pacific waters where it lives on sandy bottoms. Found this one near a slope while free diving.

Notes:

It feeds on other fish, worms, crustaceans and mollusks.

I would say this is a rock sole (Lepidopsetta bilineata) rather than a sand sole. The sand sole has a much larger mouth and has a nearly straight lateral line, compared to the arch seen here.
