Description:

Fuzzy cap and stem. The stem was very sturdy and wouldn't break even when bent over. The gills were somewhat ragged.

Shady, grassy area in a suburban neighborhood

Yes, we have Panus fasciatus (syn. Lentinus fasciatus). I love their fuzziness.

Thanks Neil. I think what you have is a Panus species if I'm not mistaken. I'm still catching up on my photos but I have some that I will post soon of Panus lecomtei

Lovely spotting, Machi. That is a beautiful specimen, and excellent photos too. We have a similar species in Australia called "hairy trumpet".
