Hypocrea fungus

Hypocrea sp.

Description:

Small firm nodules about 5 mm wide with smooth surfaces. Some showed minute ostioles on the surface ( pic 2). The wood surface on which these were seen was slimy with some white material along the margin.

Habitat:

Spotted on a damp piece of tree branch.

Notes:

This could be Hypocrea rufa but I am not able to find any information on this in Australia except for a photo and description In Fuhrer's 2005 Field guide to Australian Fungi. If this is the correct species, then the following link has some interesting information about this fungus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trichoderma... Might have to go back to site and look for it to check for any development.
