Great Blue Heron

Ardea herodias

Description:

This juvenile heron seemed only moderately concerned with the presence of humans and the family dog and we were able to watch it fishing for about 30 minutes.

Habitat:

Look for Great Blue Herons in saltwater and freshwater habitats, from open coasts, marshes, sloughs, riverbanks, and lakes to backyard goldfish ponds

Notes:

Spotted in a small inlet and marshy area near the swim beach at Cauble Park on Acworth Lake.
