Parasitic Jaeger

Stercorarius parasiticus

Description:

One of the 3 jaegers found worldwide. Although the word "jaeger" comes from German meaning "hunter", jaegers are known for being kleptoparasitic in nature, being excellent in stealing food caught by other seabirds. They spend their lives largely offshore but return to land to breed in Arctic tundras. During the winter, the birds migrate to tropical waters.

Notes:

Second year immature bird
