Northern Crescent butterfly

Description:

This is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. Wingspan 32-38mm. Antenna clubs of male are orange. Females are darker. Upperside is orange-brown with dark borders.

Habitat:

Open areas in rocky places, wooded streams, marsh edges, and shale barrens.

Notes:

This beautiful little Northern Crescent butterfly was spotted on a goldenrod plant in the marshes of Assateague Island National Seashore in Ocean City, Maryland.
