Chlorociboria aeruginascens
A large patch of teal-colour (blue-green) marks the place of this saprobic fungus, on wood. In the patch were pale teal coloured fruiting bodies ( about 3mm wide) like small discs, some distorted by mutual pressure.
Spotted on a decaying eucalyptus log in a nature reserve.
In 15th century Italy, "Green Oak" wood was used for decorative wood work because of the blue-green stain caused by the compound Xylindein in the Chlorociboria fungus.
