Hibiscus laevis
From the "Field Guide to Wildflowers of Georgia and the Surrounding States" - found in freshwater marshes, river banks, and floodplains throughout Georgia, except the mountain areas. Grows 2 to 11 feet tall. Flowers are up to 5 inches across, usually pink or white, with 5 petals and a deep pink or maroon center. Flowers June through August. Goes by the common names of "Smooth Rose Mallow" and "Marsh Mallow".
Georgia Piedmont / Indian Springs State Park - this specimen was growing long the shore of Lake McIntosh.
