Spotted this growing along side a river bank a few hours south of Manaus. The name Samauma means 'giant one' in the local Tupi Guarani dialect. The black mark is where the water level peaked the previous year.

these trees are so amazing...it really makes me sad and rageous how the agricultural industry is whiping them away like grass with the mower...
