Weeping Milk Cap

Lactifluus volemus

Description:

Attractive, brownish orange mushroom. The velvety cap had an inrolled margin and was mostly flat with a slight central depression. The gills were attached to the stem and were creamy white. They exuded white milk when touched. The stipe was colored similar to the cap, but more pale.

Habitat:

Growing on the ground in a deciduous forest.

Notes:

They produce white milk, which will stain everything it touches brown. This species also has a fishy odor, which intensifies after the mushrooms have been picked.
