Spotting

Notes:

Caterpillar found at Fall Creek Falls State Park. I have no idea where to begin to try to identify this caterpillar. There are so many different species! Is it true that the little barbs on caterpillars like these are stingers? My mom always told me that, but she may have been just saying that to try to get me to leave them alone. I've never touched one of these, though, as a result, lol.

Those black hairs are probably urticating hairs that cause a nasty reaction, so your mom was right in this case! For identification, try this site, which helps with visual IDs: http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20q?guide.... To me, it looks like it might be in the tussock moth family, Lymantriidae.
