Prairie Ring-necked Snake

Diadophis punctatus arnyi

Description:

Small, secretive nonvenomous snake. This individual is about a foot long, with a yellow ring around neck. Ventral coloration is vibrant yellow with black dots... the yellow turns to bright orange near tail. Dorsal coloration is dark gray.

Habitat:

Under a board on a brushy, partially wooded hillside.
