Phasianus colchicus
Juvenile Ring-necked pheasant. Juvenile ring-necked pheasants have the appearance of the female with a shorter tail. The ring-neck pheasant is well adapted for life on the ground and will take to flight only when there is no other means of escape. Populations have been established in the grain-producing regions of the Midwest and agricultural areas north of Virginia.
This juvenile pheasant slowly walked across an open field and walked into the woods near the campground in Verona, Virginia.
