A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Cacatua galerita
The Sulphur-crested Cockatoo is a large white Australian parrot. It has a dark grey-black bill, a sulphur-yellow crest and a yellow wash on the underside of the wings. Sexes are similar, although the female has a red-brown eye while the male's eye is darker brown. This is a very noisy bird whether at rest or in flight.
Its range extends throughout the northern and eastern mainland, and Tasmania. It is quite common, and has extended its range over the last century. They are found in a variety of habitats and are common in urban areas. The birds stay in the same area all year round.
