Spotting

Description:

Approx 3" long. With wings closed: Overall color mottled greyish & white, w some brown (looks like old weathered wood); extremely faint indistinct markings. Edges of wing tips have sm white dashes. Legs have white spots/ bands. With wings opened: Upside down--no visible colors other than the grey & white. Right-side up--Body is black w orange circles on sides. 2 grey parallel bands run lengthwise along top, w sm white bands cross-wise the entire length.

Habitat:

Found on a wood fence, next to a Passion Flower (Passiflora caerulea) vine.

Notes:

Passion Flower vine is neighbor's plant that has spilled over our fence. Besides the beautiful flowers, it has become a habitat for various types "insects". Birds enjoy the feast it provides & a few have even chosen to nest in it.
