Odocoileus virginianus
There is much difference in size with all the subspecies of this deer, but these were really big, easily over 100#. They were grayish brown with white on the underside, upper throat and chin and the fashionable white rump and underside of the tail.
Quite common in the flats of Montana, during the few days we were there I saw no less than 12 in 3 different groups come through the wide open, unfenced property.
Nice big animals, but had to watch from a distance as they were really edgy, moving slowly off at the slightest movement.
