Cobalt crust fungus

Description:

A crust fungus with a deep blue color. I don't know the plant species. It was rotting and about 1 inch in diameter.

Habitat:

Spotted on a rotting understory plant. Mostly deciduous forest near a creek.

Notes:

This species was chosen as fungus of the year for 2009 by the German Mycological Society.
