Aegeria apiformis or Sesia apiformis

Description:

about 4- 5 cm long hornetlike/ wasplike insect the caterpillars eat the wood and radix of Populus tremula or Populus nigra and Salix caprea

Habitat:

meadow, in mideurope they are said to be common, but it was the first one I ever saw.

Notes:

:D I´m sooo glad! A glas winged butterfly - too bad I didn´t get a better shot, I was afraid it was a hornet, and on a hot day they could be aggressive
