Couroupita guianensis

Description:

Spotted in a Buddhist temple garden in Bangkok. Evergreen tree, the fruits have the shape and size of cannon balls that, like the flowers, arise from the trunk of the tree. Fruits release a foul aroma when they hit the ground and break open. The flowers don't contain any nectar and are mostly visited by bees in search for pollen.

Habitat:

Native to tropical South America (e.g. Amazon basin) ,southern Caribbean, India and Thailand.

Notes:

The tree possesses antibiotic, antifungal, antiseptic and analgesic qualities. Juice made from the leaves is used to cure skin diseases. The inside of the fruit can disinfect wounds.

Alice its originated from Caribbean Island Trinidad. Flowers are fragrant. Its large evergreen tree. Main wood grows almost erect like a Pine tree. The fruits look alike clay pots. In India we call it Kailashpati tree.
