Eastern Worm Snake

Carphophis amoenus amoenus

Description:

A small snake with a pointy little head - gets its name from the fact that it primarily preys upon earthworms.

Habitat:

Inhabits mesic, wooded or partially wooded areas (hardwood or pine) usually under cover (rotted logs, loose damp soil, leaf litter). It prefers moist soil with an abundance of earthworms.
