Turk’s Cap or Sleeping Hibiscus

Malvaviscus arboreus

Description:

Broad star shaped leaves with vibrant red flower that looks like an unopened hibiscus flower. According to Wikipedia it is the host for caterpillars of the Turk’s-cap White-Skipper.

Habitat:

Woods.

Notes:

There was a group of small plants tallest being about 24 inches (60cm). The flowers were only about 2 inches (5cm) including the stigma. I’m assuming this was a group of young plants.

Hmmm....From what I gathered from the below links this is the variation drummondii. One site I came across noted that the drooping variation is more typically referred to as sleeping hibiscus.Would you have a suggestion to what it might be? Or maybe a link to more information?

Sorry that is not Turk's Cap Hibiscus. It is not the right flowers or leaves.
