Red Admiral

Vanessa atalanta

Description:

The Red Admiral can be found in Europe, Asia and North America. His wingspan is about 45-50mm. The Red Admiral is often seen even late in the season, he can hibernate and those individuals are darker in colour than first season butterflies. He sometimes even flies on sunny winter days.

Notes:

The first two shots were taken on a forest walk and the other two one of these fellows got caught for a short time on our outside dog carpet. No worries, he escaped unharmed after posing a bit for me
