Monster butterfly

Ornithoptera euphorion

Description:

This was a monster-sized butterfly, about the size of an open hand. Beautifully bright red and yellow torso. I waited for about half an hour to catch a glimpse of its spanned wings but unfortunately, it didn't move at all. Males have additional green colouring whilst females (like this spotting) do not. Spotted in the butterfly enclosure at the Melbourne Zoo.
