Band-Eyed Drone Fly

Eristalinus taeniops

Description:

Rare yellow and black stripe eye bee-looking hoverfly. This is a male since the eyes meet at the middle per BugGuide.

Habitat:

On our window box full of insect infested shade plants in window sill. Later few on ivy nearby. Rare in the US and only found in CA and FL.

Notes:

I was very excited to find this! Just wish I could have snapped a couple more pics before it flew away. There is a short video of it cleaning itself

I had my second sighting of a male Band-Eyed Drone Fly! They're amazing flies! I uploaded a pic at the end.

Has anyone else in the states seen this hoverfly? Apparently they're in Ca and Fl but I didn't see another one from the states on here.
