Black-necked Stilt

Himantopus mexicanus

Description:

The adult birds have both long thin bills and legs; the legs are pink while the bill is black. The belly is white and black above. The wings are also black. Black extends up the back of the neck and across the top of the head. Sexes generally look similar, although the male has a greenish cast during the breeding season and the female is browner.

Habitat:

I photographed these two birds in the same small prairie wetland pond.
