Tringa semipalmata
This is a long-legged wader with a long, straight bill The body is a grayish brown above and just a shade lighter below. In flight, this rather drab bird shows off its startling patterned wings (see second photo).
I photographed this willet in a wetland pond in Bowdoin National Wildlife Refuge in Montana. They were frequenting prairie pothole wetlands and the shores of lakes.
