Description:

Boletes has gills arranged in clusters of tubes that resemble sponge. Very young gills are consumed, otherwise the gills are discarded. B edulis has a large brown to red brown cap and white to green gill/sponge with a thick stem washed with red.

Habitat:

moist coastal forest

Notes:

This one was growing on a cut at the edge of the trail, thus showing both the cap and the gill structures
