History and Science together go for for some very interesting facts. It is said that he also thought of the rattle snake as an emblem too.

Wasn't the USA mascot going to be the turkey at one point? Instead of the Eagle because the Eagle was a predator and the turkey was more social? I remember that story from somewhere in school. ...Just looked it up. It was Ben Franklin. http://www.greatseal.com/symbols/turkey....

Tom Savage is a poultry scientist and animal science professor at Oregon State University.
Every year around Thanksgiving time, Savage makes an extra effort to correct the misconceptions about this underrated bird.
"If you throw an apple to a group of turkeys, they'll play with it together," he said. "Kind of like football."
Savage asks, "If turkeys are so dumb, then why do they socialize like that?

Oops, sorry I should've explained! It's the main reason people car pool round here!

I had to look up HOV lane :))
Q What's an HOV lane?
A.
"High Occupancy Vehicle" lane, or car-pool lane. The central concept for HOV lanes is to move more people rather than more cars. Some HOV lanes carry almost half of the people carried on the entire freeway. Regular "mixed-flow" lanes are never converted to HOV lanes. Rather, HOV lanes are always added to existing facilities. Each vehicle that travels on an HOV lane must carry the minimum number of people posted at the entrance signs. Usually that means at least two people, or in some cases three people. Each child counts as an occupant, but pets, infants still in the womb, inflatable dolls or ghosts do not (we've heard 'em all). Violators are subject to a minimum $381 fine. Exceptions: Motorcycles, even those carrying just one person, are allowed to use the HOV lanes. Some HOV lanes are in operation only during certain hours, which are posted. Outside of those hours, they may be used by all vehicles.

I always knew there were turkeys in traffic in California! Seriously, though, back in the 60's there were a fair number of pheasants around that were introduced for hunting. Never see them anymore but turkeys are taking hold.

Huh...I wonder what that will do to their health inspection scores! Home Depots and the like always have birds all over their stores. That shrink wrap on the stuff up top is not just protecting the items from dust.

@ Heather, Talking about Urban Biodiversity, how about searching for stuff in a grocery store and finding a sparrow? Yesterday, there was a sparrow sitting on the Shelf in Safeway!

Is it possible that the parking guy heard "turn key" but understood "turkeys"?

Hema Shah
Hema Shah 12 years ago

We have lots of turkeys all over on the roof and lawn and mountains and name it!

OK that is funny! Do turkeys (the birds) wander around California parking lots often?

I can imagine two turkeys (birds) being spotted during the morning commute in Atlanta causing rush hour gridlock. A while back, there was an escaped CDC monkey and the morning radio shows went nuts with crazy callers.
